Every day at around 3:00-4:00ISH, the Butcher packs up all of the ground beef that was ground the day before, but did not sell. These packages are then marked 50% off.
For example, tonight I bought 2 packs of Ground Beef:
Pack 1 (3.56 lbs): $7.10
Pack 2 (3.61 lbs): $7.18
-50% off Stickers
=$7.14 for BOTH packs (about $1.00/lb)
The Butcher told me these packs go pretty quick and are usually gone by 6pm. Look for the orange 50% off sticker!
This is at the Liberty Lake store, but my guess is that ALL Safeways have to follow this freshness guarantee policy.

Most stores have "cut off" times for ground beef that are approaching the 48 hour mark, so it definately pays to ask the butcher what that time is, and then plan your shopping trips accordingly, when you need to purchase ground meat. Great info for Safeway, Thank you Crystal :)
Albertsons has the same thing! I've gotten ground beef several times at the Alby's at 57th & Regal for about a dollar a pound too.
GREAT tip!!! I never thought of it, but of course they have to get rid of it. I'll be on the lookout now.
Thank ya!
I love the new look by the way! :)
I'm in Phoenix, AZ and my Safeway (32nd St & T-bird) has a little section in the meat dept just for these orange sticker items. I went Sunday around 1pm and there was a lot of stuff there but mostly roasts and steaks. Very good deals!
Wow, that's a good tip! Thanks!
